Executive Profile: Hans Paulsen

Managing Director, Vivo Energy Uganda, November 2013 to May 2017

Hans Paulsen was managing director Vivo Energy Uganda from November 2013 to May 2017. He was replaced by Gilbert Assi.

Paulsen joined Vivo Energy in 2013, a couple of months after the company had taken over Shell operations in Uganda in February 2013. He took over from Ivan Kyayonka. The 47-year-old had returned from Zambia where he had served as Managing Director of Zambia Telecommunications Company Ltd (ZAMTEL). He took the position in August 2010, two months after Libyan firm LAP Green had bought 75% shares in the parastatal, ZAMTEL, for $257million. Paulsen had worked with LAP Green as Chief Commercial Officer from June 2008-July 2010.

Before his appointment in Zambia, Paulsen had served in several managerial positions at Uganda Telecom Ltd with his last post there as the Chief Commercial Officer which he held from April 2006 to May 2008.

Paulsen has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences (Political Economy/International Relations) from Makerere University and an MBA in Marketing from Leicester University.
