Stanbic Bank contributes Shs225 million to 2016 MTN Kampala marathon

Stanbic Bank Uganda, a key long term partner and supporter of the MTN Kampala Marathon, has made a significant contribution of Shs225 million towards this year’s efforts to improve access to sustainable sanitation for the urban poor especially children in public schools around Kampala.

The contribution was presented by Stanbic Uganda’s Chief Executive, Patrick Mweheire during an official handover ceremony held at the Stanbic Bank Head Office.

Speaking at the occasion, Mweheire said, “We are extremely proud and excited to partner with MTN once again in what has become a world class event attracting fun runners and elite athletes from across the globe. We have consistently supported the MTN Kampala Marathon because it aligns with Stanbic’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) vision that focuses on promoting better access to education. We hope that our support continues to transform the lives of school children by improving their wellbeing to further their education for a better future.

“Our objective as Stanbic will be to help build on the 13 years of success not only through our financial support but through the participation of our staff where we contribute the largest number of runners from a single company with over 200 staff members who participate annually,” he added.

Thanking Stanbic for their contribution and support over the years MTN CEO Wim Vanhelleputte said, “We appreciate the value of the contribution Stanbic Bank has made in the 13 years, which is why the MTN Marathon is the success that is it today. The proceeds this year will build on our efforts from 2015 and be put towards making improvements to the sanitation environment for the urban poor children in public schools around Kampala. We also intend for some of the proceeds to support construction of bio toilets with water harvesting facilities and environment friendly bio-gas technology that reduces the cost of energy used in preparing meals for pupils so that children across the city.”

The MTN Marathon now in its 13th edition is Uganda’s largest mass participation event attracting more than 20,000 elite and fun runners from across the globe.
