Monthly Brief: November 2016

Overview
President Yoweri Museveni ended months of speculation on who would lead the Electoral Commission after Badru Kiggundu, appointing Court of Appeal Judge Simon Mugenyi Byabakama as the new head. The appointment will have to be approved by Parliament.

Annual headline inflation for the year ended November 2016 rose to 4.6% from 4.1% the previous month, the first increase since July. Core inflation – a key measure targeted by the Bank of Uganda – rose for the second consecutive month to 5.2%.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development Uganda expects to have identified a lead investor in Uganda’s proposed oil refinery by February next year. The search continues after Russia’s RT Global Resources pulled out of negotiations in June this year.
