Monthly Report: January 2017

Overview
President Museveni changed the army’s leadership, reassigning some officers and dropping others. The erstwhile army commander, General Katumba Wamala, was appointed state minister for works and replaced by General David Muhoozi, who was commanding the land forces. The president’s son, Major General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, was dropped from Special Forces commander and named special presidential advisor in charge of operations. Colonel Don Nabaasa was named acting commander of the Special Forces Command.

Inflation rose to 5.9% in January, the highest rate in seven months, mainly driven by an increase in the price of food crops. Annual food crops inflation increased to 14.5% for the year ending January 2017 compared to the 10.8% recorded last month.
