UPPC board advertises managing director job

The Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) board has started a fresh search process for a new managing director.

Early this month, the board took out an advert for the position in the New Vision, just before the previous managing director, Irene Muwanguzi, returned to office.

Ms Muwanguzi, who has spent nearly half of her three-year tenure out of office, was ordered back to office by the high court last November.

This website, however, understands that the corporation’s board kept her out of office pending formalization of certain procedures. Her first term was also expiring around the same time.

Last April the high court set aside a consent judgement issued in August 2016 that resolved that Ms Muwanguzi is removed from office. A main application on the same was pending and was disposed of in November.

The court cases unfolded on the heels of ongoing reforms at the beleaguered Entebbe-based government printery following a report by the Inspector General of Government, Irene Mulyagonja, issued early last year.

The IGG’s investigation unearthed poor administration and abuse of office, and ordered the minister of the presidency at the time to sack the board and embark on reforms to turn around the organisation.

It was around this time that Ms Muwanguzi, who was at the heart of the reforms, ran into trouble with some individuals at the organisation.

The IGG also said that Ms Muwanguzi, who had been sacked earlier by the board on grounds of insubordination, had been terminated unjustly, and ordered for her reinstatement.
