Every quarter, the central bank publishes charges and interest rates for personal accounts with commercial banks.
It’s motivation is to “promote transparency and enhance competition in the provision of banking services to the public.” If you are being offered or charged differently from what it’s data shows, it advises you to let it know.
We are publishing the information to help you get the best rates in case you are shopping for a loan, and to help you decide the best bank to do business with. In short, we want to help you save money.
The first table below is of interest rates at Uganda’s 24 commercial banks. It shows the annual rates charged for borrowing or earned through saving and fixing money in banks.
Further below is Bank of Uganda’s comprehensive publication showing minimum balances on accounts, bank charges, loan related charges, and charges and fees for ATM transactions.
The rates and charges were accurate for 1 January, 2019.
