Executive Profile: Selestino Babungi

MD, Umeme Ltd (since April 2015)

Babungi is the first Ugandan to head the power distribution utility. He joined Umeme in 2006 as credit control manager after six years at Ernst & Young, rose to area manager and later chief financial officer before his current post. His main priority at Umeme, he’s said elsewhere, is expanding the supply of electricity so more Ugandans have access to it.

Babungi, 39, has a BSc in Statistics from Makerere University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). In 2015, his first year in charge of Umeme, net profit increased by 50.2% to Shs105.8 billion from Shs70.5 billion in 2014.
