Nile Breweries Limited is a beverage company, and one of the largest beer manufacturers in Uganda. It invested $29 million at its Jinja plant to increase capacity in 2009, and opened a second brewery in Mbarara four years later that was expected to double capacity; the plant was constructed at a cost of $91 million.

Real Gross Domestic Product fell 1.3% year-on-year in the third quarter of financial year 2015/2016, compared to a 2.1% growth in the second quarter, according to data from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics.
