Ms Nansubuga, who has been Umeme's chief operations officer since 2012, and a board member since March 2015, told the company's board on 16 November that she is leaving for another job in the energy/electricity sector. She previously worked for the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company, Umeme's predecessor, on behalf of which it holds the electricity distribution concession. Umeme's concession to operate the country's electricity distribution system expires in March 2025 and will not be renewed, with the government preferring a state-owned utility to take over.

Umeme’s chief operations officer and executive director is stepping down from both roles, the company said in a statement.

The power utility said on Friday that Florence Nansubuga had informed the board on Thursday of her decision “to take up a new career in the sector.” It did not say when she would actually leave the company.

Ms Nansubuga has been Umeme’s chief operations officer since 2012, and joined the board in March 2015. She previously worked for the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company, Umeme’s predecessor, on behalf of which it holds the electricity distribution concession.

“The company would like to thank Ms Florence Nansubuga for her exemplary and dedicated service to Umeme and the electricity supply industry,” the statement said.
