The total value traded on the Uganda Securities Exchange for domestically listed companies was Shs216.9mn ($57,312.6), surpassing last week’s total value of Shs141.7mn.

The total volume of shares traded during the week was 6,623,662. Bank of Baroda Uganda had the highest volume of shares traded with 5,046,900 shares. This was followed by Stanbic Uganda Holdings with 880,000 shares, MTN Uganda with 610,867 shares, Airtel Uganda with 66,890 shares, Cipla Quality Chemical Industries with 10,500 shares, and Umeme Limited with 8,505 shares.

The stock with the highest total transaction value was MTN Uganda, with a weekly trade value of Shs104.4mn. Bank of Baroda followed with deals worth Shs75.7mn, while deals traded for Stanbic Uganda Holdings amounted to Shs28.3mn. Airtel Uganda’s trading volume was Shs6.7mn, Umeme’s volume was Shs1mn, while Cipla Quality Chemical Industries closed the week with a traded volume of Shs735,000.

Tuesday was the most active day with 5,677,450 shares worth Sh99.7 million traded. All but four stocks — British American Tobacco Uganda, Dfcu, National Insurance Corporation, New Vision Printing and Publishing Company Ltd and Uganda Clays Limited — traded. Incidentally, these four stocks were also the same ones that did not trade during the week. Friday was the slowest day with 44,389 shares valued at Shs5.6 million traded.

Bank of Baroda’s share price closed the week up 7.14 per cent while Umeme gained 0.02 per cent to close the week at Shs414. MTN’s share price fell by 0.08 during the week. Share prices of other companies remained unchanged from the opening of the week.

MTN’s share price moved the most during the week. It fell 0.29 per cent to Shs170.26 on Monday, rose 0.43 per cent to Shs171 on Tuesday, and declined by 0.22 per cent to Shs170.62 on Friday. Umeme’s share price fell by 0.06 per cent to Shs413.67 on Tuesday before rising to Shs414 on Wednesday, a gain of 0.08 per cent.
