This year’s highly anticipated ‘Legends of Sound: Afrigo at 50’ event is expected to attract thousands of people to celebrate the music of Uganda’s most enduring and popular band.

Speaking at a press conference, Aly Allibhai, the CEO of Talent Africa Group, announced that, unlike the previous two editions which took place at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, this year’s performance will be held at the more spacious Millennium Grounds on Saturday, 16 August.

This is in recognition of Afrigo Band’s large and loyal fanbase, and their achievement in being Uganda’s most iconic musical ensemble for half a century.

“We are going to Millennium Grounds because we want Ugandans to have enough space to dance and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime celebration,” he said.

The Afrigo at 50 concert promises to be the cultural and musical highlight of the year, with a star-studded line-up of Afrigo Band legends, including Moses Matovu, Rachel Magoola, Joanita Kawalya, Herbert Kigundu, Sarah Namulondo and Charles Busuulwa.

Adding to the excitement, the legendary Congolese superstar Koffi Olomide — the King of Ndombolo — will perform as a special guest, alongside the phenomenal Abeka Band.

Stanbic Bank is enhancing the experience by enabling fans to buy discounted tickets through its innovative digital platform, FlexiPay. According to Stanbic Bank, FlexiPay is not just an ordinary ticketing platform, but a digital lifestyle solution designed to simplify the purchasing process.

“As the official ticketing partner, FlexiPay is ensuring that purchasing tickets for Afrigo@50 is seamless, safe, and rewarding. Fans can now buy their tickets at discounted rates via the FlexiPay App or by dialing *291# on any mobile network.” Lois Kwikiriza, the brand and marketing manager at Stanbic Bank Uganda, said.

She described the partnership with Afrigo Band as a continuation of the bank’s commitment to empowering Ugandans to access smart, secure financial solutions and enjoy life without the hurdles associated with cash transactions.

Ms Kwikiriza added: “I would like to encourage concertgoers to use FlexiPay to purchase tickets, and to keep some money on the app so they can buy food and drink at the venue, because we shall be offering massive discounts and happy hour activations all night long.”
