Welcoming the new AfDB country manager on 25 February 2026 in Kampala, Minister Odongo highlighted the Bank’s strong partnership with Uganda, reiterating the significance of its long-standing support, which has seen total investments of $5.2bn since 1968 when the institution became active in Uganda. Mr Odongo also expressed the government’s desire for continued collaboration to advance national development priorities.

Speaking on behalf of Dr Sidi Ould Tah, President of the African Development Bank Group, Mr Bhebhe expressed gratitude for the enduring partnership and reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting Uganda’s development aspirations.

The African Development Bank Group’s engagement in Uganda spans a range of strategic sectors, including investments in transport infrastructure to enhance regional connectivity, boost energy access, and support agricultural and rural development programmes to strengthen climate resilience and improve value chains. The Bank Group has also supported the education sector and water and sanitation projects, as well as providing emergency assistance, including support for areas affected by floods in late 2025.

Before his new appointment, Mr Bhebhe served as the bank’s country manager for South Sudan, where he gained extensive experience in advancing development initiatives across the region.
